FOAM-ROLLING

Foam-rolling is something I do before my training to aid recovery, improve blood flow and help with the breaking down of muscle fascia in order to improve mobility and relieve any DOMS before I train. This can have benefits for improving your training session with increased mobility, and help to improve muscle recovery between your training sessions, too.

With all of the following exercises it is important to apply necessary pressure to the required areas of your body, in preparation to train. Be mindful of your tempo, rolling slowly and with consistently applied pressure, rather than just rocking mindlessly up and down the roller. Use your breath to help with muscular release and gauge how effective foam-rolling can be for you, by judging its impact on your training. If you notice an improvement in your training, then continue, but equally, if you see little benefit, it is important to look at other reasons that may be hindering your training – perhaps a poor diet, inadequate sleep or dehydration.
